Jobs & Economy

Ohio is facing tremendously difficult economic challenges that it has not encountered in decades.  Unemployment continues to rise and businesses are leaving the state at an alarming rate.  While Ohio has remarkable strengths, right now our state government seems determined to drive jobs, business, and educated workers out of the state through excessive regulations and an unfriendly business climate.

Thoughtful and carefully planned tax reforms can lead Ohio back to economic prosperity.  Ohio’s economy and hope for job creation is directly linked to the state’s tax policy.  With a heavy tax burden, Ohio will always be at a disadvantage to grow its economy, increase jobs, keep its college graduates and attract others from out of state.  Helping our families, small businesses and entrepreneurs will spur the economic growth to once again make Ohio great.

Education

The education system is one of the most important institutions in the United States.  No longer are Ohio’s students competing with those across the state or nation, but globally with students thousands of miles away.

Ohio must have a sound education system to make sure our children are given the best opportunity for success in the future.  Along with educating our next generation, we must also provide the needed schooling for those seeking employment, whether it be through higher education or workforce development training.

The more Ohioans who receive a quality education the better their chances will be competing for higher paid jobs, which will benefit Ohio’s economy.  Two key ingredients of a successful education system in Ohio are parental choice for education and providing the appropriate funding levels for our schools.

Government Accountability

From the federal level to the state level, today’s government is too big and unresponsive to the needs of its citizens.  Ohio’s budget problems reflect the increasing problem of a government structure that is out of control.  Our state government should be running as efficiently and effectively as possible, guaranteeing the most needed services and responding to the will of the people.

Unfortunately, our government has strayed from these beliefs with irresponsible spending and excessive government growth. We are putting our next generation further into debt each passing day.  Government waste is becoming all too familiar and we can no longer afford for our government to run irresponsibly and ineffectively.

Ohio urgently needs reforms which will guarantee transparency in government spending and efficiency in government operations. As Ohio’s families are being forced to make budgetary decisions and be more efficient with their finances, it is time for their government to do the same.

Energy

Energy policy is a key issue not only for Ohio, but on the national and global scene as well.  A sound energy policy involves a comprehensive utilization of all of Ohio’s diverse energy resources through energy exploration; developing domestic energy sources in a clean and safe manner; and leveraging Ohio’s manufacturing base to become a leader in green technology.

An energy policy that consists of all of these features will ensure stable energy prices for Ohio consumers, complement Ohio’s economic development strategy, and secure Ohio’s leadership in utilization of domestic energy resources in an environmentally responsible manner.

Healthcare

Healthcare policy and reform is at the top of the agenda in Ohio.  As our population continues to age and the baby-boomer generation begins to face both the financial and health burdens of advancing age, Ohio has a unique opportunity to not only address its own dilemmas, but also pave the way for the entire nation in tackling this crisis.

In this age of technology and portability, Ohio must push forward to better utilize the programs we already have in place and make necessary changes to meet the changing needs of Ohioans.  We must work to enable Ohioans to make their own personal healthcare decisions, as they know better than the government what will work for them.  Increased government mandates and a “one-size-fits-all” approach only further threatens to decrease quality and access for healthcare coverage.
